Job summary

Fairbanks Morse Defense seeks an Automation Engineer to join our Technology team in Beloit, WI. You will design and support control systems for naval power technology, including engine, davit, and test stand controls, while adhering to MIL-SPEC and cybersecurity guidelines.

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, support engineering documentation, and assist in testing and commissioning at both land-based and shipboard sites, with up to 30% travel.

Qualifications

• BS in Electrical Engineering or related technical field or equivalent practical experience.
• 3–5 years of electrical control system programming and design.
• Experience with PLC programming (Rockwell, Automation Direct; some Siemens).
• Knowledge of wiring schematics and electrical drawings.
• Experience with networking protocols (CANBUS, Modbus, Ethernet).
• Ability to travel up to 30% per year.
• U.S. citizenship/no foreign nationals NOFORN requirement; will provide proof of citizenship.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop controls and automation solutions for naval systems.
• Support product development gate processes for new products and upgrades.
• Contribute to technical proposals, quotes, and presentations.
• Prepare engineering submittals, drawings, and BOMs.
• Design industrial networks and interconnect cabling.
• Assist in testing and commissioning at ship and land-based sites.
