Job summary

Sayres seeks an experienced Naval Architect (Hull, Hydrodynamics, Weights, Stability) with an active SECRET clearance for our Washington, DC office; on-site 2 days/week with travel to Mobile, AL. The Naval Architect will support the PMS 300/325 Ship Design Management team as SME, handling studies through construction and in-service support for various ships.

Requirements include a Bachelor's degree in Naval Architecture or Ocean Engineering with 7+ years' ship design experience, intact/damage

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering or Ocean Engineering; 7+ years shipbuilding/design experience.
• Experience with intact and damage stability and trim sensitivity calculations.
• Experience with automated engineering software such as AutoCAD, Navisworks, ShipConstructor, Rhino3D, GHS, CargoMAX, AdobePro.
• Excellent interpersonal and customer relations skills.
• Superior organizational skills and ability to work in a team.

Responsibilities

• Provide SME engineering support for concept studies, feasibility studies, and design activities.
• Perform critical design reviews of industry contract deliverables (specs, drawings, calculations).
• Develop corrective design comments to meet Government specs and requirements.
• Develop technical resolutions to engineering problems in Navy ship production.
• Provide HM&E technical assessments and advise on equipment/design issues.
• Supervise and train junior SDM engineers.

Job description

Sayres, a leading provider of defense support services to the DOD, is currently seeking an experienced Naval Architect (Hull, Hydrodynamics, Weights, Stability) with an active SECRET clearance, verifiable in DISS in Washington, DC.

This position is on-site 2 days a week based out of the 55 M SE Washington DC 20003 office. There will also be travel to Mobile, AL as needed to support the government customer. Travel requirements may be discussed more in detail on interview.

Responsibilities:

The Naval Architect (Hull, Hydrodynamics, Weights, Stability) will support the PMS 300/325 Ship Design Management team, providing SME expertise for technical and engineering efforts on the assigned Hull (e.g T-AGOS, T-AO, T-ATS, NGLS, T-ARC, Service Craft).

• Provide engineering/technical support for concept studies; feasibility studies; preliminary design activities; contract design activities; detail design and construction activities; independent design reviews; In-service ship design and engineering activities; shipboard installation support; and special studies related to ships/boats/craft, ship systems, and/or shipboard equipment.
• Perform critical ship design review and analysis of industry (shipyard) contract deliverables such as specifications, drawings, and calculations.
• On behalf of Navy customer, develop corrective design comments and revisions to confirm to Government specifications and requirements.
• Develop technical resolutions to engineering problems that arise in the production of Navy Ships.
• Provide Hull, Mechanical, and Electrical (HM&E) technical assessments and evaluations in accordance with the specification and advise the client on equipment and system design issues.
• Supervise and train junior SDM engineers.

Minimum Skill Sets of Qualified Candidates:

• Bachelor's degree in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering OR Ocean Engineering and no less than seven (7) years of shipbuilding/design experience in development of work packages, in-service modifications, detail design drawings and analysis, implementation of ABS and military specifications and requirements, 3D modeling, and/or ship system integration. Experience shall be specific to ship design and construction.
• Experience with conducting intact and damage stability and trim sensitivity calculations.
• Experience with automated engineering software (i.e. AutoCAD, Navisworks, ShipConstructor, Rhino3D, GHS, CargoMAX, AdobePro).
• Excellent interpersonal and customer relation skills.
• Superior organizational skills.
• Ability to work in a team environment.
• Active SECRET security clearance verifiable in JPAS or the ability to obtain an interim Secret clearance

Preferred Skill Sets of Qualified Candidates:

• Master's degree in engineering.
• Professional Engineer License.
• Capable of developing and designing hull structural products with skill in interfacing design towards producibility.
• Experience with foundation design, including vibration and noise mitigations.
• Familiar with SAWE RP-12, eSWBS, NAVSEA design Practices and Criteria Manuals DPC 100-4, Carderock Code 60, ABS, and FEA design tools.
• Prior military, maritime, or Marine Engineer background.
• Strong Marine Engineering experience.
• Knowledge of Contract Documentation, experience reading contract data, and familiarity with NAVSEA ship specification requirements and processes.

The anticipated salary range for this position is $110,000.00 to $150,000.00 per year. Actual compensation may vary based on qualifications, experience, skills, education, certifications, geographic location, work arrangement, and other relevant factors. This range reflects the anticipated compensation for the position at the time of posting and may be adjusted as business needs or market conditions change.
