Job summary

Fox Valley Park District's Red Oak Nature Center in Aurora, IL is seeking a part-time Nature Program Instructor to lead engaging outdoor and classroom programs for children and families. The role requires enthusiasm for the outdoors, strong customer service, and the ability to communicate clearly; CPR/First Aid certification is preferred and a valid Illinois driver's license is required.

Hours include Monday–Friday 9-4 with some weekends/evenings/holidays and up to 1,000 hours per year.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Strong interest in the outdoors and basic understanding of environmental processes.
• Enthusiastic, friendly and prior experience with children is preferred.
• Excellent customer service and organizational skills with attention to detail.
• Good leadership, facilitation and presentation skills.
• Have or obtain CPR, AED and First Aid certification.
• Must have a valid Illinois Driver’s License and be able to provide own transportation.

Responsibilities

• Lead and/or assist programming for a variety of ages and seasons, including coordinating with staff to execute programs across Red Oak’s outdoor campus and in-school settings.
• Work with Environmental Education Supervisor to support goals; maintain safety and program quality.

NATURE PROGRAM INSTRUCTOR RED OAK

FACILITY: Red Oak Nature Center, 930 North River Rd. North Aurora, IL 60542

LOCATION: Aurora, IL

HOURS: M-F 9-4:00 pm, Flexibility with days/shifts, may be required to work some weekends, evenings and/or holidays. Hours vary weekly, not to exceed 1,000 hours in a calendar year.

RATE: $15.00/hr minimum hourly rate

DUTIES Under the direction and supervision of the Environmental Education Supervisor the Nature Program Instructor is responsible for contributing to the goals of the Red Oak Nature Center by leading and/or assisting programming for a variety of ages and seasons including but not limited to coordinating with other staff to execute programs across Red Oak’s outdoor campus of varying ecosystems and in-class within schools and organizations. This is an at-will position.
