Job summary

The City of Virginia Beach Parks and Recreation is seeking a Natural Resources Coordinator to lead Natural Resources Management, Urban Forestry, and Horticulture teams. You will oversee budgeting, contracts, and policy development to support municipal landscapes and environmental programs.

The role requires a Bachelor’s degree in a related field and several years of experience, with a willingness to work during emergencies. DMV transcript is required; a Master’s degree is a plus.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Ecology or related field and six years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience totaling ten years.
• Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
• Alpha I designation and willingness to work beyond regular hours during emergencies may be required.
• Other requirements listed by the City include DMV Transcript and background checks.

Responsibilities

• Manage and direct the City's Natural Resources Management, Urban Forestry, and Horticulture teams, including strategic planning and budget oversight.
• Oversee approximately 24 staff and coordinate operations across municipal natural areas and waterway access sites.
• Provide contract administration for environmental consulting, landscape projects, and maintenance programs.
• Lead urban forestry and horticultural initiatives in support of Council goals and city services.
• Develop divisional policies, budget planning, requisitions, and procurement activities.
• Respond to inquiries from City leadership and citizens regarding landscape programs.
