Colorado State University seeks a One Natural Resources Technician (Seasonal, 40 hrs/wk) to support Fort A.P. Hill, VA, with fish and wildlife surveys and forest management tasks.

The role involves field data collection, survey design, and GIS mapping, and runs up to 260 working days onsite with transportation required. We value prior field experience in natural resources, ability to work independently in rugged conditions, and a willingness to learn through entry-level training within CSU's

Qualifications

  • Pursuing a B.S. in a natural resources-, cultural resources-, ecosystem science-, or environmental compliance-related field (at least a sophomore standing).
  • At least 3 months and no more than 3 years of relevant experience (internships, fieldwork, seasonal work, volunteer work, or coursework).
  • Basic field data collection skills (e.g., vegetation surveys, wildlife monitoring, GPS-based mapping).
  • Experience performing wildlife demographic and monitoring.
  • Experience performing vegetation surveys, including rare plant monitoring.
  • Experience performing timber inventories.
  • Experience with word processing, database entry, and data retrieval.
  • Experience working on a military installation.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting in food plot management and planting, fertilizers, and equipment operation.
  • Assisting with fish stocking, prescribed burning, soil sampling, and trail maintenance; designing surveys and improving methods.
  • Assisting with surveys of fish and wildlife populations, endangered species, and habitat assessments.
  • Revising and creating tables and graphs for reports; using GIS to create maps from survey data.
