Job summary

Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation seeks a Natural Resources Supervisor to lead natural resources management across county preserves. The role includes prescribed burns, invasive species control, wildlife monitoring, and endangered species work; expects GIS use, data analysis, and collaboration with staff and partners in government, non-profits, and the public.

The ideal candidate has a forest ecology background, and is able to obtain required licenses within the first year.

Qualifications

• Masters degree in Wildlife Biology, Forestry, Botany, Natural Resources, Ecology or closely related field.
• Minimum three years of natural resources management experience with supervisory exposure.
• Licenses required: valid drivers license; able to obtain Fire Crew Certification and Pesticide License within one year.

Responsibilities

• Lead or assist with natural resource health and diversity initiatives, including invasive species control and habitat restoration.
• Conduct flora and fauna inventory, monitoring, and management across county lands.
• Collaborate with staff, partners, and agencies; supervise staff and interns as needed.
• Utilize GPS, ArcGIS, and MS Office for reports, planning, and data analysis.
