What You Will Be Doing:

The Realty Services Section, Statehood Entitlement Team, is seeking someone to join our 7-person team that is responsible for acquiring new lands from the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) to fulfill the State's land entitlement under the Alaska Statehood Act. In this position, you will be:

Review land title (land use history) to ensure lands are free of contamination, trespass, or other concerns and will add value to the State's portfolio of public lands.

Review BLM decisions and other actions to protect both the public's and State's rights.

Review land title documents for accuracy and ensure title documents are entered into the public record.

Prepare detailed and well-researched documents addressing complex land ownership questions, make recommendations, and make legally defensible decisions on the acquisition or relinquishment of land selections.

Mission and Values/Culture:

The Statehood Entitlement Team ensures the State receives clear title, free of encumbrances, to the highest-quality, highest-value lands from the federal government to complete Alaska’s entitlement. This position requires outside-the-box thinking, the ability to balance multiple competing interests and needs, and the persistence to stick with projects that require multiple years to complete. Our Team values accuracy, responsibility, tenacity, collaboration, mentoring, meeting deadlines, and providing excellent customer service.

Benefits of Joining Our Team:

This position is part of a team uniquely tasked with determining which lands will be conveyed to the State to complete its entitlement. This is an opportunity to play an active role in building the State’s land base through the statehood land grants. We strive to ensure that the remaining entitlement lands are of the highest value and quality. The Realty Section is a dynamic, positive learning environment that supports teamwork and collaboration, but also requires and supports autonomous work that fits staff needs. Career advancement is available through the Natural Resource Specialist series within the Department of Natural Resources.

The Working Environment You Can Expect:

Realty Services is an excellent environment for those seeking a work-life balance. Parking is provided, and secure bike storage is available for pedal commuters. The daily work environment is quiet and consists of research-based desk work, with opportunities to collaborate within and outside the section. The Realty Team is friendly, cooperative, and supportive. Our section supports flexible hours or the option of an alternate work week, and the position is potentially eligible for part-time telework.

We are looking for a candidate who possesses the following position-specific competencies.

Critical Thinking: Uses logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.

Attention to Detail: Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.

Technical Competence: Uses knowledge that is acquired through formal training or extensive on-the-job experience to perform one's job; works with, understands, and evaluates technical information related to the job; advises others on technical issues.
