Job summary

AlphaGen, a leading energy company in the United States, seeks a Natural Gas Analyst to support commercial strategy by analyzing natural gas markets, fuel procurement, and generation margins. You will develop forecasts and actionable market intelligence to optimize procurement and risk management.

Reporting to the Head of Commercial Operations, you will prepare reports and dashboards, evaluate fuel supply agreements, and collaborate with Risk to enhance profitability across AlphaGen's generation

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Energy Management, or a related discipline.
• 4-7 years of experience in natural gas markets, energy analytics, commodity trading support, fuel procurement, market risk, or commercial operations.
• Strong analytical and quantitative problem-solving skills.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Experience working with large datasets and developing forecasting or financial models.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to translate complex market information into actionable business recommendations.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and analyze natural gas market fundamentals, including supply, demand, storage, weather, LNG exports, pipeline infrastructure, and regulatory developments.
• Develop short-, medium-, and long-term forecasts for natural gas prices, basis differentials, transportation costs, and fuel supply conditions.
• Analyze historical market data, pricing trends, and economic indicators to identify emerging risks and opportunities.
• Maintain awareness of regional developments and assess potential impacts on AlphaGen's fuel costs and generation margins.
• Support the development of AlphaGen's forward market view and fuel strategy recommendations.
• Prepare timely reports, presentations, and dashboards that communicate market trends, key findings, and actionable recommendations to management.
• Analyze fuel supply agreements, transportation contracts, storage arrangements, and other commercial agreements to identify value enhancement opportunities and contractual risks.
• Assess market, operational, and regulatory risks associated with fuel procurement and commodity price volatility.
• Develop recommendations to mitigate fuel-related financial and operational risks.
• Support fuel budgeting, hedge evaluations, and risk management activities.
