Job summary

Qualifications

Job description

Status: This position is contingent upon contract award.

Overview

Prevailance is seeking a Mission Security Subject Matter Expert (SME) to support North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Headquarters Supreme Allied Commander Transformation (HQ SACT) Capability Development Management Support (CMDS) in Norfolk, Virginia. This position is expected to work on-site and may require approximately 25% travel.

The Mission Security SME supports the planning, coordination, and execution of security measures for NATO personnel, missions, travel, and high-profile events. This position assesses security and counterintelligence risks, develops mission- and event-specific security plans, conducts site surveys, provides traveler and leadership briefings, and coordinates security activities with NATO stakeholders, law enforcement, intelligence agencies, and other external organizations.

Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To:
  • Analyze reports from the command travel database (FINs) to identify high-risk destinations and critical travel locations for command personnel
  • Collect and analyze security information from open-source intelligence (OSINT), classified reporting, local security advisories, and other sources to assess risks and threats in advance of travel
  • Provide comprehensive security briefings to command travelers, including mission-specific security protocols, local risks, and mitigation strategies
  • Develop security plans for high-risk events and missions in accordance with NATO security policies and procedures
  • Conduct risk assessments and security audits to identify vulnerabilities at planned event sites and recommend appropriate risk mitigation measures
  • Lead site security surveys and develop actionable reports and mitigation strategies based on identified vulnerabilities
  • Review attendee information involving non-NATO participants and assess potential counterintelligence (CI) risks to NATO personnel and operations
  • Prepare security briefings for senior leadership and management approval in coordination with Force Protection (FP) personnel
  • Provide on-site security support and oversight during events, including support to Delegate Assistance Centers, registration desks, and check-in points
  • Coordinate security activities for Diamond Events and external missions with local authorities, law enforcement, and intelligence agencies, including security logistics, site assessments, and emergency response protocols
  • Prepare after-action reports (AARs) and post-event analyses documenting security challenges, protocols, and recommendations for future events and missions
  • Support development of lessons-learned products and historical security documentation to improve future planning and risk-management activities
  • Ensure security-related reports, briefings, incidents, and lessons learned are documented in accordance with NATO standards
  • Provide security and risk-management briefings and consultation to NATO stakeholders at all levels, including FP personnel, NATO Command leadership, and event planners
  • Collaborate with local agencies and international organizations to align security policies and procedures with NATO personnel-safety requirements
Qualifications
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in security administration, risk management, criminology, public administration, or industrial security administration, including responsibility for planning, coordinating, and executing security operations for high-profile events, international travel, or multinational operations
  • Minimum 5 years of experience planning, managing, and executing security measures for major events involving VIPs, senior leadership, or large-scale international operations, including risk assessments, site security surveys, and coordination with local law enforcement, intelligence agencies, and emergency responders
  • Demonstrated ability to collect, analyze, and interpret security-related information from open-source intelligence (OSINT) and classified or unclassified sources
  • Demonstrated ability to develop comprehensive security briefings, risk assessments, and incident reports for senior leadership and operational teams
  • Demonstrated ability to engage effectively with stakeholders at all levels, including senior leadership, internal teams, external security agencies, and local law enforcement
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; security databases; collaborative tools such as SharePoint and Teams; and online resources used for OSINT collection
  • Demonstrated English-language proficiency equivalent to STANAG 6001 SLP 3333
Certifications
  • Recognized certification in Risk Management (e.g., PMP, CRMP, or equivalent) or another relevant security-related qualification
  • Counterterrorism or crisis management certifications are preferred
Clearance
  • Must possess and maintain an active NATO SECRET (or higher) security clearance issued by a NATO member nation's industrial security authority
