Our team includes the firm’s President, a Director of Operations, former senior military leaders, experienced professional lobbyists, and a policy team. Recognized as a top lobbying firm by Bloomberg Government, The Hill, and the National Institute for Lobbying & Ethics, we operate at the intersection of national security, defense policy, and federal business development.

JAG is seeking a full-time Research Associate/Analyst, depending on experience, to join our growing policy team. This role will work directly with JAG's senior lobbyists and team of retired general and flag officers and senior defense officials to support legislative strategy, client engagements, and business development across a portfolio of high-priority national security issues.

Responsibilities
  • Research and track legislation, appropriations, committee activity, and regulatory developments affecting client priorities across the NDAA cycle, defense authorization, and supplemental funding processes.
  • Draft white papers, issue briefs, one-pagers, Hill testimony support materials, and policy alerts for client and internal use.
  • Support senior lobbyists and EVPs with meeting preparation, Hill engagement logistics, and follow‑up correspondence.
  • Devise client or portfolio priority plans with EVPs and business leads and monitor execution plans and relevant opportunities Contribute to business development efforts including capability summaries, teaming materials, and proposal support.
  • Create and edit presentation materials, client reports, and firm communications.
  • Assist in coordinating events, briefings, and stakeholder engagement activities.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required; concentration in national security, English, STEM, finance or a related field preferred.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; writing sample required for application.
  • Proficiency with AI tools (such as Claude, ChatGPT, or Microsoft Copilot) for research, summarizing, and first drafts, with the discipline to verify all output against primary sources.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Prior experience or knowledge base on national security, supply chain, or government relations strongly preferred.
  • Experience on Capitol Hill, in the Executive Branch, or within a government relations or defense industry setting is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to synthesize complex policy and technical content for non‑specialist audiences.
  • High attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple concurrent priorities with a range of communication styles.
What Sets JAG Apart
  • Direct client exposure from day one: JAG's Policy team works across a live portfolio of defense technology companies, not on peripheral administrative tasks.
  • Mentorship from retired generals, flag officers, and senior government officials with decades of acquisition, policy, and operational experience.
  • Front‑row access to the NDAA process, defense appropriations, and the full arc of a legislative cycle in one of Washington's most active defense lobbying practices.
  • Hands‑on experience with the defense industrial base across autonomous systems, critical materials, specialty metals, space, cybersecurity, and advanced manufacturing.
  • A firm culture built on ethics, bipartisan relationships, and long‑term client partnerships.
