Job summary

Sandia National Laboratories is seeking an on-site R&D Mechanical Engineer in Albuquerque, NM, to advance national security through stockpile surveillance and test bed development. You will distill customer needs into robust designs, model with Creo, and perform strength analyses while coordinating cross-disciplinary teams across the Ballistic Missile and Air Delivered Tester Development groups.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline and five (5) years of directly relevant experience or equivalent
• Active DOE Q clearance or equivalent with ability to obtain Sigma 15 access, potentially requiring a polygraph

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to distill customer requirements into functional designs.
• Design and implement test bed assemblies for various mechanical environments including centrifuge, shaker table, and explosive containment assemblies.
• Engage in solid modeling using Creo to create designs that meet testing standards and extreme conditions.
• Conduct first-cut analyses to evaluate material strength and explosive constituents to ensure design viability.
• Develop innovative solutions and clarify system and subsystem requirements for testers.
• Create detailed drawings using GD&T and generate build-to-print documentation for manufacturing.
