National Refrigeration Safety & Compliance Lead

Job summary

UNFI is seeking an experienced leader to head the National Refrigeration Inspection, Testing, and Maintenance (ITM) program. You will drive safety, compliance, and asset reliability by partnering with regional teams and standardizing CMMS-driven processes across facilities.

The role requires PSM leadership in ammonia refrigeration, strong data analytics, and cross-functional collaboration to reduce costs and improve uptime. Remote work options are available for a nationwide program.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Industrial Technology, Facilities Management, Safety, Environmental Sciences, or related field.
• 5+ years of Process Safety Management (PSM) leadership experience with industrial ammonia refrigeration systems.
• RETA certifications (CARO, CIRO, CRST, or equivalent) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership for UNFI's National Refrigeration ITM program to maximize equipment reliability, safety, compliance, and uptime.
• Develop and monitor KPIs, compliance metrics, and audit programs for refrigeratio n and process safety management.
• Lead ongoing improvement of SOPs, preventive maintenance strategies, and CMMS data integrity.
• Collaborate with Operations, Safety, Food Safety, Engineering, and Facilities to align risk management objectives across facilities.
• Oversee capital investment strategies and lifecycle analysis for refrigeration assets to optimize ROI.
• Mentor Facility Managers and maintenance teams on refrigeration operations and regulatory compliance.
• Ensure contractors have appropriate certifications and training for ammonia and refrigeration work.
