Job summary

Transgender Law Center is seeking a National Organizer to build power with trans communities nationwide. The role involves designing trainings, convenings, and cohorts using popular education to grow leadership and political analysis. Remote work or office in Oakland or Brooklyn is available.

The position reports to the Director of Programs and requires strong facilitation, writing, and project management skills, with a deep commitment to racial, gender, and HIV justice.

Salary:$98,300-$103,000

About the Position

Transgender Law Center's National Organizer will build power with trans communities across the country by developing leadership, strengthening local and state organizing efforts, and advancing campaigns rooted in racial, gender, and HIV justice. We are seeking a skilled and self-motivated organizer to design and facilitate trainings, convenings, and cohorts that use popular education techniques to build political analysis and grow community leadership. This person will identify emerging issues, support base-building, campaign, and narrative change work, and translate research and needs assessments into strategies that resource and amplify local organizing.

Working across a national network of staff, community leaders, and partners, this person must be able to build authentic relationships while navigating the distinct needs and contexts of different regions and communities. This role requires strong communication skills, including facilitation and writing, sound judgment in issue identification and campaign development, and the project management skills to keep multiple trainings, partnerships, and deliverables moving forward. The ideal candidate is a true organizer at heart, with the instincts to build relationships, read a room, and move people toward shared action. They are flexible and adaptable as priorities shift, follow through on commitments, and jump in to support teammates with coverage as emerging issues arise. Most importantly, they have a deep commitment to advancing racial, gender, and HIV justice through the collective power of BIPOC trans and disabled communities.

Key Responsibilities

National Organizing & Campaign Leadership

• Lead national organizing efforts aligned with TLC's key priorities, including but not limited to serving as an organizer for the Positively Trans+ program
• Co-coordinate advocacy campaigns and on-the-ground ballot measure support in priority states
• Work with partners to develop advocacy and narrative change strategies addressing HIV criminalization and anti-trans legislation
• Identify emerging policy issues and translate them into organizing, campaign, and narrative priorities
• Contribute to and support campaigns and organizing across TLC's programmatic work

Partnership & Coalition Building

• Build and steward relationships with coalition partners, community organizations, and allied movements
• Coordinate and collaborate with the Positively Trans+ National Advisory Board (NAB)
• Represent TLC in external meetings, advocacy spaces, and conferences
• Collaborate with TLC staff to advance shared strategic goals across programs

Trainings, Convenings & Leadership Development

• Plan and facilitate regional convenings and national training institutes
• Develop curriculum and training materials grounded in popular education techniques
• Design and lead cohorts and workshops that build political analysis and community leadership
• Facilitate key internal and external meetings related to program and campaign work

Program Management & Communications

• Manage day-to-day program operations, including meetings, trainings, convenings, and participant engagement
• Support participants through ongoing communication and relationship-building
• Disseminate research and needs-assessment findings to inform narrative change and education efforts
• Draft memos to partners, conference abstracts, and other written materials supporting program and campaign work
• Track project timelines and deliverables to ensure programs run smoothly and on schedule
• Participate in organization-wide activities and shared responsibilities that support team alignment and culture

Qualifications & Requirements

• 1-3 years of experience in national organizing work
• Demonstrated experience in relationship-building and community organizing, including base-building, fostering community leadership, and supporting local and state organizing efforts nationally
• Experience planning and facilitating trainings, convenings, and cohorts using popular education techniques grounded in political and popular education
• Experience with campaign development and narrative change work, including issue identification and disseminating research (such as needs assessments) to inform strategy
• Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple trainings, timelines, and deliverables simultaneously
• Strong communication skills, including facilitation and writing, with the ability to draft curriculum, partner memos, and conference abstracts
• Demonstrated commitment to racial, gender, and HIV justice
• Experience working with transgender migrants, Black trans communities, communities of color, poor, working class, transgender youth and disability communities and transgender and gender nonconforming communities.
