Job summary

First American is seeking a National Commercial Underwriter to provide underwriting guidance for commercial and residential title insurance commitments. You will evaluate title risk, issue underwriting solutions, and collaborate with cross‑functional teams to support complex real estate transactions.

The role requires 5+ years in land title underwriting, strong knowledge of ALTA policies, and excellent communication.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of land title insurance underwriting experience
• Knowledge of title insurance principles, escrow and settlement practices, and real estate law
• Experience underwriting complex, high-liability, multi-state commercial transactions
• Understanding ALTA policies, endorsements, and underwriting guidelines
• Analytical skills to resolve title issues while balancing risk and business objectives
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Bachelor's degree preferred; high school diploma required

Responsibilities

• Provide underwriting guidance and authorization for title insurance commitments and policies
• Evaluate title risk and underwrite transactions within delegated authority
• Analyze and resolve complex title issues with practical underwriting solutions
• Serve as a trusted resource on title, escrow, and real estate settlement matters
• Interpret and communicate underwriting requirements and ensure regulatory compliance
• Collaborate with operations, sales, legal, and agency teams to support real estate transactions
