Success in this role requires thoughtful account planning, technical fluency, and the ability to guide customers through sophisticated evaluation and purchasing processes. You will manage complex sales cycles, expand instrument placements, increase ongoing consumables usage, and build long-term customer value in partnership with Oxford Nanopore’s applications, inside sales, clinical sales, and marketing teams.

This is a remote, field-based position. Candidates must reside in the Silicon Valley Area and be able to travel regularly throughout the assigned territory.

What You’ll Do
  • Own the territory and account strategy
Take commercial responsibility for a defined, high-potential territory. Develop and execute strategic account plans that expand instrument placement, increase consumables usage, and strengthen long-term customer relationships.
  • Lead complex sales cycles
Manage sophisticated sales processes involving capital equipment, applications development, and ongoing supply agreements. Engage effectively with principal investigators, core facility directors, procurement teams, institutional leaders, and commercial and translational research groups.
  • Develop biotechnology and clinical research accounts
Build strategic relationships within large biotechnology organizations and clinical research institutions. Support platform adoption across discovery, translational, and preclinical research applications.
  • Position Nanopore technology competitively
Clearly articulate the differentiated value of Nanopore sequencing and align solutions with each customer’s scientific, operational, and commercial objectives.
  • Build lasting customer relationships
Establish trusted relationships with key customers and influential researchers across a broad range of disciplines. Support the development of reference sites and promote long‑term customer success.
  • Collaborate across functions
Coordinate territory activities with Inside Sales, Field Applications, Clinical Sales, and Marketing colleagues to deliver consistent, high‑quality customer engagement.
  • Manage pipeline and forecasting
Build and maintain a strong sales pipeline using consultative selling methodologies. Provide accurate forecasts and maintain timely CRM updates, funnel reporting, and competitive intelligence.
  • Deliver commercial results
Pursue growth opportunities with urgency, discipline, and resilience. Work toward clearly defined performance objectives and navigate competitive sales situations with preparation, insight, and persistence.
  • Represent Oxford Nanopore in the market
Participate in regional seminars, workshops, conferences, and other customer‑facing events to strengthen Oxford Nanopore’s visibility and scientific credibility.
  • Complete training and administrative requirements
Participate fully in required training programs and demonstrate proficiency as assessed. Manage expenses, reporting, and other administrative responsibilities while adhering to company policies and applicable safety standards.
What You’ll Bring
  • Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences or a related field; an advanced degree is preferred
  • At least five years of field‑based commercial experience, including a minimum of three years selling scientific instrumentation, high‑technology platforms, or complex laboratory solutions
    OR
  • Relevant inside sales or distribution experience with Oxford Nanopore technology or within the NGS market
  • Demonstrated success managing complex, consultative sales processes in competitive environments
  • Strong understanding of territory planning, pipeline development, forecasting, and CRM systems
  • Excellent communication, organization, presentation, and time‑management skills
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a matrixed, international organization
  • Strong commercial judgment and experience working toward budgets, revenue goals, and performance targets
  • Established relationships with scientific and operational stakeholders within the assigned territory, or a demonstrated ability to build these relationships quickly
  • A competitive, accountable approach and the persistence to win business through preparation, insight, and customer focus
