Job summary

Unisys is seeking a Monitoring Engineer to manage Nagios XI in a mixed Windows/Linux environment. The role requires hands-on administration, scripting for checks, and collaboration with IT and networks to ensure comprehensive coverage.

You will onboard devices, build custom checks, tune alerts, and optimize platform performance while documenting processes for maintainability and knowledge sharing across teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 3+ years of systems/network administration experience, including 2+ years administering Nagios XI in a production environment.
• Scripting ability across platforms: Bash and/or Python for Linux checks, and PowerShell for Windows checks via NCPA.
• Working knowledge of SNMP, NRPE/NCPA, syslog, and common monitoring protocols.
• Understanding of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, ports, firewalls) as they relate to monitoring connectivity.
• Self-motivated and able to operate independently with minimal oversight.
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to translate monitoring data for teams and leadership.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and administer the Nagios XI platform, including upgrades, patches, plugin updates, backups, and health checks.
• Onboard new devices, servers, and services into monitoring to ensure full coverage.
• Design, build, and maintain custom checks and scripts across Windows and Linux.
• Tune alerting and thresholds to minimize false positives while catching real issues.
• Monitor platform performance, capacity, latency, and database health.
• Document configurations, runbooks, and processes for transparency and maintainability.
• Collaborate with IT, network, systems, and app teams to identify monitoring gaps.
