Job summary

AXIS Capital, a leading global provider of specialty insurance and reinsurance, seeks a North America Casualty Treaty Reinsurance Underwriter. You will underwrite and manage a portfolio of NA General Casualty and Workers Compensation treaty business, coordinating with actuarial, claims, and legal teams to ensure disciplined risk selection.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated casualty underwriting, reinsurance underwriting, broking, actuarial, or related experience with a strong understanding of North American casualty business.
• Knowledge of General Casualty and Workers Compensation, with familiarity across related casualty classes.
• Working knowledge of actuarial and pricing concepts and collaboration with actuarial teams.
• Ability to assess exposure, loss development, rate changes, limits, and treaty economics.
• Strong grasp of reinsurance contract wording, exclusions, and related processes.
• Excellent communication of complex concepts to executives and stakeholders.
• Client-focused approach with ability to develop solutions while maintaining underwriting discipline.

Responsibilities

• Originate, analyze, price, structure, negotiate, and underwrite North America general casualty and workers compensation treaty business.
• Manage renewals and new-business opportunities across proportional and non-proportional treaty structures.
• Assess cedent strategy, controls, reserving, exposure trends, and performance to form underwriting views.
• Collaborate with actuarial, claims, finance, and legal teams to evaluate treaty economics and terms.
• Build relationships with reinsurance intermediaries and cedent clients to support profitable origination and retention.
• Monitor market conditions and casualty loss drivers to inform portfolio management and strategy.
• Prepare underwriting referrals, portfolio updates, and governance-ready recommendations.
