Job summary

Industrial Electric Mfg. (IEM) is seeking a seasoned R&D Mechanical Engineer - Medium Voltage to lead design, testing, and certification of electrical power products. You will collaborate with electrical, mechanical, and manufacturing teams to drive robust product development.

The role emphasizes NRTL certification readiness, DFMA integration, and hands-on development with prototypes, simulations, and lab testing, with potential 20% travel.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of experience designing low and/or medium voltage power distribution equipment or related products.
• BSME or equivalent in experience.
• Experience with NRTL (UL, CSA, etc.) evaluation, testing and certification processes.
• Experience with common standards for electrical equipment (UL 891, 1558, 508A; IEEE C37.20.2, etc.)
• Design Experience using SolidWorks to produce 3D models is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead NP development projects from initiation through production.
• Write specs and develop concept drawings with stakeholders.
• Coordinate NRTL testing scope and certification.
• Create detailed design drawings, 3D models, and BOMs.
• Develop and document test plans per standards.
• Support testing in-house and at labs; travel up to 20%.
• Evaluate test results and revise designs accordingly.
• Characterize electrical, thermal, and mechanical performance via testing or simulation.
• Work with manufacturing to implement DFMA.
• Conduct failure analyses and seek continuous improvement.
