Job summary

Baystate Pediatric Palliative Care is seeking a Music Therapist to join a growing, innovative team providing services to families in Western Massachusetts. The role is full-time (40 hours/week) with Monday–Friday shifts, serving Hampden, Hampshire, and Franklin counties.

The position emphasizes clinical music therapy, interdisciplinary collaboration, supervision of students, and ongoing professional development in a supportive environment.

Qualifications

  • 5 years of music therapy experience working with children.
  • Experience in pediatrics, palliative/hospice care, or related fields preferred.
  • Ability to relate to diverse families and patients.

Responsibilities

  • Establish, document, and evaluate clinical music therapy goals to address psychosocial needs of patients, siblings, and parents.
  • Plan, organize, implement, adapt, and evaluate music therapy interventions to positively influence psychosocial wellbeing.
  • Create and implement interdisciplinary co-treatments with other pediatric palliative care providers.
  • Integrate appropriate music therapy approaches into treatment planning.
  • Demonstrate clinical musicianship and select suitable musical equipment for sessions.
  • Supervise music therapy students and stay current with music therapy research.
  • Communicate clinically relevant information to multidisciplinary teams and in-services.

Baystate Pediatric Palliative Care is looking for a Music Therapist to join our team!
The music therapist is a certified professional who has the opportunity to join a growing, innovative palliative care team and provide services to families in Western Massachusetts.
Schedule:
Full-time (40 hours per week)
Monday – Friday, 8-hour shifts
Location:
We service patients in the community – this includes Hampden, Hampshire, and Franklin counties.

Job Responsibilities:

Establish, document, and evaluate clinical music therapy goals and objectives to address psychosocial needs of patients, siblings, and parents enrolled within the Pediatric Palliative Care Program.

Plan, organize, implement, adapt, and evaluate music therapy interventions designed to positively influence patients' psychosocial needs.

Create and implement interdisciplinary co-treatments with other pediatric palliative care providers to support psychosocial needs of patients and families.

Integrate the most appropriate music therapy approach (i.e. behavioral, developmental, improvisational, neurological, medical) into the patient’s music therapy treatment planning.

Have a high level of clinical musicianship by playing, adapting, and selecting appropriate musical and non-musical equipment for all music therapy experiences.

Supervise music therapy students (i.e. practicum, interns) and maintain current clinical music therapy practice through review of current music therapy research.

Communicate clinically relevant music therapy information effectively to a variety of professional disciplines in the form of oral, written, in-services, conferences and other community sharing opportunities.

Required Work Experience:
  • 5 years of music therapy experience working with children who have various needs
Preferred Work Experience:
  • 5+ years experience in areas such as pediatrics, special education, palliative/hospice care, and/or social services
Skills and Competencies:
  • Excellent observation, communication, listening, and documentation skills.
  • Musical proficiency and knowledge of a variety of instruments.
  • The ability to relate to people from all backgrounds.
  • The ability to handle sensitive and difficult issues.
  • Emotional strength and ability to cope with challenging situations.
  • Empathy and the ability to gain clients' trust.
  • The confidence to work with people independently and in groups.

Bachelors Degree (Required)

Compensation

Note: The compensation range(s) in the table below represent the base salaries for all positions at a given grade across the health system. Typically, a new hire can expect a starting salary somewhere in the lower part of the range. Actual salaries may vary by position and will be determined based on the candidate's relevant experience. No employee will be paid below the minimum of the range. Pay ranges are listed as hourly for non-exempt employees and based on assumed full time commitment for exempt employees.

$66,081.00 – $75,982.00 – $89,876.00
