Job summary

Cincinnati Children’s is seeking a full-time Music Therapist dedicated to improving health outcomes for children through music therapy. This role mainly supports the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and involves therapeutic sessions addressing emotional and developmental needs of patients and their families. We are looking for compassionate individuals who hold a degree in Music Therapy and are prepared to engage in innovative and collaborative care.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Music Therapy and completed internship for certification.

At Cincinnati Children’s, music therapists work with children of all ages and their loved ones to address needs related to pain, physical recovery, mental health, end of life, and coping with hospitalization and disease.

As members of robust interdisciplinary patient treatment teams, our music therapists incorporate patient interests into therapeutic activities to lower patient anxiety and stress, reduce pain and discomfort, and improve mood and sleep. Interventions are provided in direct response to assessment and therapeutic goal creation and emphasize autonomy, non-invasive interactions, and the opportunity to process emotions. Music therapists offer individual and group sessions on several hospital units including inpatient medical units, residential mental health programs, palliative care, and perinatal hospice.

All of our Board-Certified Music Therapists (MT-BC) have a degree in music therapy and are licensed to practice in the state of Ohio (LPMT). This includes training in a variety of music techniques, human development, counseling skills and an understanding of how music impacts your body and feelings. Cincinnati Children’s is also a music therapy internship training site.

Job Description Summary

This full-time position will focus on the support of our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), with potential to expand therapeutic influence to our Fetal Care Center and perinatal hospice program. Due to this intended scope of service, specific NICU training as an MT-NICU is preferred.

Entry-level clinical professional position which requires conceptual knowledge of theories, practices, and procedures within a job discipline. Uses established procedures to solve standard problems. Develops competence by performing structured work assignments. Partners with providers, nurses, social workers and others to meet the unique emotional, developmental and cultural needs of each child and family.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor degree in Music Therapy
  • Meets all professional competencies and completed internship required for certification
  • American Music Therapy Association Board Certification
  • LPMT License in the State of Ohio (Licensed Professional Music Therapist)
  • NICU-specific music therapy training (either completed or in progress) *preferred
