Qualifications

Family Therapist

Who We Are:

God Restoring Order (GRO) Community is a mental healthcare provider that specializes in trauma recovery services for males of color ages 5 and up. GRO services are grounded in an understanding of the neurological, biological and psychological effects of trauma. GRO services include mental health and wellness, stress management, and community outreach.

The Impact You Will Make:

GRO Community is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Family Therapist to support the caregivers of African American boys, as well as individuals from other marginalized communities. The Family Therapist will provide therapy, case management, and tailored support services to help create a healthy and nurturing home environment.

This role requires an outgoing professional who can build strong relationships with parents and caregivers and is comfortable conducting home visits. The ideal candidate must have provisional licensure in social work, counseling, or family therapy. We are looking for someone passionate about working in the community, eager to learn new clinical interventions, and ambitious about obtaining independent clinical licensure.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide individual and family counseling to mothers and caregivers, while offering clinical support for their sons.
  • Offer case management services by connecting families with community resources, support systems, and additional services as needed.
  • Conduct home visits to build strong relationships and provide direct support in a familiar environment.
  • Collaborate with GRO Community’s clinical team to ensure a holistic approach to the family’s emotional, mental, and social well-being.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of counseling sessions and case management activities in compliance with agency policies.
  • Facilitate support groups or workshops designed to help mothers and caregivers strengthen their relationships with their sons and navigate challenges.
  • Develop individualized care plans that reflect each family’s needs, strengths, and goals, providing ongoing support and necessary adjustments.
  • Design creative engagement activities for parents to enhance their participation and support.

Competencies:

  • Provisional licensure in social work, counseling, family therapy, or a related field.
  • Experience working with African American families, particularly those impacted by community violence or trauma, is highly preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust and connect with families in a culturally competent manner.
  • Willingness to conduct home visits and work in various community settings.
  • Excellent communication, case management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently, as well as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Commitment to GRO Community’s mission of supporting African American boys and their families through culturally competent mental health services.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, or related field required

  • 3-5 Years experience with trauma-informed care or similar therapeutic models, preferred
  • Familiarity with community resources in Chicago and Cincinnati that serve African American families.
