Job summary

Sundog Theatre, Inc. in Staten Island seeks Teaching Artists for the 2026-2027 school year in music. Teaching Artists lead workshops and residencies in schools, helping students explore artistic ideas and express themselves creatively.

Responsibilities include leading lessons, collaborating with teachers, and adapting to diverse learners. Experience with NYC schools and bilingual settings is preferred. Compensation starts at $50 per hour.

Qualifications

  • Professional experience in music (all types, especially choral, recorder and bucket drums).
  • Experience with students in K–12 in educational, community, or arts settings.
  • Strong classroom management.

Responsibilities

  • Lead arts workshops and residencies for students in grades K–12
  • Develop and lead engaging lessons within the music discipline
  • Create a positive, inclusive classroom environment where students feel comfortable participating
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers and school staff
  • Adapt lessons to meet diverse learners, including English Language Learners and students with special needs
  • Incorporate New York State Learning Standards and the NYC Blueprints for Teaching & Learning in the Arts
  • Communicate with Sundog staff about program progress and classroom needs
