Job summary

Sundog Theatre, Inc. is seeking Dance Teaching Artists to support school-year 2026-2027 programs across NYC-schools and community sites. You will lead dance workshops, create engaging lessons, and foster creative expression in young learners.

Ideal candidates have professional dance experience, strong classroom management, and a commitment to inclusive teaching. You will collaborate with teachers and the Arts Education Manager to align activities with state standards.

Qualifications

  • Professional experience in dance, including step and hip-hop.
  • Experience working with students in educational or arts settings.
  • Ability to maintain engaging, inclusive learning environments.

Responsibilities

  • Lead dance workshops and residencies for students in grades K–12
  • Develop and lead engaging lessons within the dance discipline
  • Create a positive, inclusive classroom environment where students feel comfortable participating
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers and school staff
  • Adapt lessons to meet the needs of diverse learners, including English Language Learners and students with special needs
  • Incorporate New York State Learning Standards and the NYC Blueprints for Teaching & Learning in the Arts
  • Communicate with Sundog staff about program progress and classroom needs

Job Responsibilities:

Sundog Theatre is seeking enthusiastic and creative Dance Teaching Artists to join our arts education team. We are looking for instructors in all types of dance, with specific needs for step and hip-hop.

Teaching Artists lead engaging workshops and residencies in schools and community settings, helping students explore artistic ideas, build new skills, and express themselves creatively.

We are looking for artists who enjoy working with young people and are passionate about sharing their craft in a classroom environment. Teaching Artists should feel comfortable leading groups, adapting lessons to different learning styles, and creating a supportive and inclusive space for students to learn and participate.

  • Lead arts workshops and residencies for students in grades K–12
