Teaching at Perry Street Prep

Responsibilities

We are recruiting a Music teacher for the 2025-26 school year. Teaching positions at Perry Street Prep are full-time, salaried, 10-month positions. Teachers at Perry Street Prep are responsible for the following:

  • Collaborating with colleagues in developing cohesive curriculum materials, increasing evidence-based instructional resources, and establishing instructional goals grounded in research
  • Preparing standards-based lessons that challenge students’ critical thinking and musical and performance capacities
  • Design and develop effective daily lesson plans, instructional materials, and assessments for delivery effective instruction.
  • Utilizing strong content knowledge to effectively present enticing and rigorous common core-aligned lessons
  • Differentiating instruction to accommodate multiple learning styles and abilities
  • assessing students’ academic and developmental growth through observation and a variety of assessment methods
  • Create and manage a classroom environment that is safe, respects all students, and is conducive to learning. And, manage student behavior for the purpose of providing a safe and optimal learning environment.
  • tracking and monitor assessment results in order to regularly refine teaching practices and design differentiated lesson plans
  • applying the values of urgency, rigor, and consistency to create a positive learning environment that promotes high expectations
  • communicating with students, parents, school staff to ensure that students are on-track in their learning and making progress towards goals
  • Direct assistant teachers, student teachers, instructional assistants, and/or volunteers for the purpose of providing an effective classroom program and addressing the needs of individual students.
  • Advise parents and/or legal guardians of student progress for the purpose of communicating expectations; student's achievements; developing methods for improvement and/or reinforcing classroom goals in the home environment.
  • Respond to inquiries from a variety of sources (e.g. other teachers, parents, administrators, students, etc.) for the purpose of resolving issues, providing information and/or direction.
  • Maintain accurate, complete and correct records as required by the school (e.g. lesson plans, attendance, grades, assessments, etc.). Submit such records in a timely manner as required by established deadlines.
  • Attend student, grade level, content level, and school meetings as assigned by administration or designee.
  • Attend and actively participate in school professional development sessions as assigned by administration and or designee.
  • Report incidents (e.g. fights, suspected child abuse, suspected substance abuse, harassment, violation of school policies, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining personal safety of students, providing a positive learning environment and adhering to school, local, state, and federal policies.
  • Respond to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns and/or directing to appropriate personnel for resolution.
  • Abide by all local, state and federal policies, regulations, and laws.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Perry Street Prep is seeking educators with the following education, experience, and personal philosophy:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university required; Master’s degree preferred
  • Two or more years of teaching experience as an elementary or middle school teacher in an urban environment with a strong record of student achievement preferred
  • A belief that all students can learn
  • A desire to be an active part of a diverse community of educators, scholars, and families
  • A strong work ethic, individual drive, and an ability to thrive in a collaborative environment

PHYSICAL ABILITIES: Hearing and speaking to exchange information in person and on the telephone; seeing to read, prepare and proofread documents; sitting or standing for extended periods of time; dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard and other office equipment; kneeling, bending at the waist and reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally to retrieve and store books, materials, files and supplies; pushing and/or pulling objects, lifting light to medium weight objects.

WORK HOURS: Daily work hours are 7:45 am to 3:45 pm. This position requires occasional evening and/or weekend commitments outside of regular school hours.

CLEARANCES: Criminal background clearance including fingerprinting
