Job summary

The Salvation Army in New York seeks an after-school music instructor to provide one-on-one vocal and instrumental lessons and to lead the Corps Brass Band and Singing Company. You will organize equipment, files, and logistics for performances and events.

You will support youth participation in music camps, auditions, and competitions, and engage with campers, staff, and Corps leaders. Bilingual English/Spanish required; associate degree or two years in related fields preferred.

Qualifications

• Must be bilingual (English and Spanish).
• Must have basic office skills including the use of computers.
• Associate Degree in a related field or two years of college in education or youth work or 2 years of equivalent experience working with youth and music ministries.
• Musical ability in Brass Band, Theory, Vocal, and other Instrumental Instruction such as Piano, Guitar, Bass, etc.

Responsibilities

• Provide one-on-one lessons and vocal instruction (group or solo).
• Teach and/or lead Corps Brass Band and Singing Company.
• Secure, organize, maintain and provide upkeep of all equipment, instruments, and files of the Corps music department.
• Facilitate participation of students during Music Sundays (at least 1 per month).
• Prepare students for Divisional and Territorial Star Search music and arts competition; assist with logistics and competition day.
• Encourage youth participation in divisional music programs and auditions.
• After-school hours on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and/or Thursdays.

• Teach and/or lead Corps Brass Band and Singing Company
• Secure, organize, maintain and provide constant upkeep of all equipment, instruments, and files of the Corps music department.
• Facilitate the participation of students during “Music Sundays” which take place at least 1 Sunday per month
• Prepare students for participation in Divisional and Territorial “Star Search” music and arts competition. Assist with logistics of transportation, chaperoning, preparation, and leading on competition date.
• Encourage and support youth participation in Divisional music and arts programs by making sure participants are ready for auditions, music camps, and conservatories.
• Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and/or Thursdays after school hours available.
