Minimum Qualifications: New York State Teacher Certification in the grade level, content, or specialty area.
Reports to: Building Principal
General Description:
The position of teacher at Belfast Central School is designed for a person with a Bachelor’s Degree and/or Master’s Degree who is certified by the State of New York in the field of education.
Specific Responsibilities of Teachers:
1. Teach music and social skills in a public educational system:
General classroom music for studentsPrepare teaching outline for course of study following state curriculum guidelines.Use a variety of teaching methods and aids to present subject matter to the class.Develop and administer assessments aligned with the curriculum and report the results.Maintain discipline in the classroom and other areas through positive but clear discipline practices.Assist pupils when social and academic problems arise. Refers students to the School Counselor, Student Assistance Team, Pupil Evaluation Team, Title I, or to other appropriate specialists.Discuss pupils’ academic and social progress with parents and suggest remedial or accelerated action based on children’s needs.2. Coordinate concert events for Belfast Central School Students.
Conduct elementary, middle, and high school concert performancesOrganize winter and spring concerts in cooperation with other music teachers.3. Communicate with the families of Belfast Central School.
Formally and informally interact with parents on a frequent and regular basis to provide information on their child’s progress and to provide support as needed.Integrate parents’ contributions to the curriculum as appropriate.Serve as a resource person to parents.Conduct periodic parent/teacher conferences so that adults can share information about children. Share information with lead teachers for inclusion in their written narrative reports.Attend Open Houses and other family functions.4. Participate in the governance and evaluation of Belfast Central School.
Attend and participate in staff meetings to discuss various aspects of the curriculum.Contribute to the ongoing evaluation and improvement of Belfast Central School.Administer state-mandated assessments5. Participate in ongoing personal and professional development.
Conduct ongoing self-evaluation to identify areas for continual improvement.Participate in annual personal and professional review to set goals for the next year.Participate in professional development activities.6. Perform other tasks and assume other responsibilities as the principal may assign that are not directly in conflict with the negotiated contract between the teachers’ association and the School Committee.
