Job summary

Deerfield Academy is seeking a Music Lesson Instructor to teach private instrumental and vocal lessons and occasionally coach student ensembles, reporting to the Director of Music.

The ideal candidate will hold a Bachelor’s degree in music, have 1–3 years of experience teaching adolescents, and demonstrate strong verbal and written communication, interpersonal and organizational skills, and a collaborative ability to work with ensembles and the Music Program.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in music required; Master’s degree or equivalent experience preferred.
• 1–3 years teaching private music lessons required; experience teaching adolescents preferred.

Job description

Reporting to the Director of Music and collaborating with the Music Program Coordinator, the Music Lesson Instructor teaches private instrumental and/or vocal music lessons and occasionally coaches student ensembles.

At this time, we are searching for instructors who teach:

• Violin/Viola
• Voice
• Bassoon

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

• Teach private lessons to students with a varying range of experience across grade levels 9-12.
• Coaching ensembles as needed throughout the school year.
• Perform alongside students in ensembles as needed throughout the year.

Administrative Duties

• Clearly communicate the lesson schedule to students.
• Maintain excellent records of private lessons taught as well as student attendance.
• Submit weekly timesheets to the Music Program Coordinator as appropriate.
• Submit End of Term information (number of lessons taught, number of unexcused lessons, if any) to the Music Program Coordinator.
• Attend meetings scheduled by Music Director and/or Music Program Coordinator.

Job Specifications

Working Conditions

• The worker is mainly in an office environment and is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
