Basic Function

Please Note: Kern Community College District acceptsapplications for part-time, hourly faculty pools on a continuousbasis. This allows the division to contact qualified applicantsimmediately, if a need arises without having to wait for a periodof time to advertise. If there is an interest and/or need withinthe specific department, applicants who meet the minimumrequirements will be contacted by respective departmentsupervisors, deans and/or division chairs. Applications submittedwill remain active for up to two years.

Kern Community College District is soliciting applications forpart-time, hourly adjunct instructors. The starting salary range is$67.00/hour; Hourly rate may vary based on type of assignment andthe Lecture Hour Equivalent (LHE) formula. For more information,refer to the CCA collective bargaining agreement or your college HRoffice.

Representative Duties

The successful applicant will be expected to provide instruction ina full range of music courses.

This assignment may include teaching at other campus sites, day orevening classes, weekend classes, large classes, distance learningand using multiple teaching methodologies. Other duties include:participation in student recruitment and articulation of transferprograms for the Visual and Performing Arts department; maintainingsubject matter currency; developing and revising curriculum; usingcomputer and multimedia technology; collegial participation indepartmental, college and discipline-specific professional activities.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's in Music;
  • OR - Bachelor's in Music AND Master's in Humanities;
  • OR - Possession of a valid credential, which authorizes the full-time teaching of Music at the California Community College level;
  • OR - The equivalent.

Certain combinations of education, experience, and other accomplishments in the field may be judged as equal to the stated minimum qualifications for these positions. Minimum Qualifications for Facultyand Administration in California Community Colleges

AND - A demonstratedsensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic,socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds ofcommunity college students.

Note: Degrees andcredits must be from accredited institutions (Title V Section53406). Any degree from a country other than the United States,including Canada and Great Britain, must be evaluated by anevaluation service.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and inwriting;
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain subject matter currency;
  • Ability to assess student learning outcomes;
  • Knowledge of computers and willingness to explore newtechnologies that would benefit the program;
  • Knowledge of and commitment to the California community collegemission;
