Kern Community College Districtaccepts applications for part-time, hourly faculty pools on acontinuous basis. Kern Community College District is soliciting applications forpart-time, hourly adjunct instructors. The starting salary range is$67.00/per lecture hour equivalent; Hourly rate may vary based ontype of assignment and the Lecture Hour Equivalent (LHE) formula.For more information, refer to the CCA collective bargainingagreement or your college HR office.
This course is an introduction to American Sign Language (ASL), avisual-gesture language used by the deaf community in the UnitedStates and Canada, and more importantly, focuses on the developmentof basic conversation skills emphasizing the culture and history ofASL through in-class and out of class requirements.
Identify and demonstrate finger spelling, numbers, and vocabularyat a beginning level. Describe and demonstrate American SignLanguage classifiers, grammar structure, facial expression, andbody movement. Compose ASL Gloss translation from English. Explainbasic cultural aspects of the Deaf. Examine and show anunderstanding of history, culture, and civilization of the Deafworld.
This assignment may include teaching at other campus sites, day orevening classes, weekend classes, large classes, distance learning and multiple teachingmethodologies.
Note: Degrees and credits must be from accreditedinstitutions (Title V Section 53406). Any degree from a countryother than the United States, including Canada and Great Britain,must be evaluated by an evaluation service.
