Job summary

Education Through Music is seeking a teaching intern to support in NYC public schools. You will lead a class under a Music Teacher-Mentor, assist with concerts, manage student behavior, and track progress using ETM rubrics.

The role requires a Bachelor’s in Music/Arts, 1 year of teaching or student teaching, and strong singing and pedagogy skills. Part-time, in-school hours, with competitive compensation and growth opportunities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in a Music/Arts or Related Field.
• 1 year of teaching or student teaching experience.
• Ability to model quality singing in front of children.
• Sound musical knowledge.
• Knowledge of musical pedagogy practices.
• Advanced musical notation and theory literacy.
• Ability to lift up to 15 lbs of equipment.

Responsibilities

• Lead and teach a class assigned by the Music Teacher-Mentor.
• Assist with school-wide concerts and rehearsals.
• Help manage student behavior to maintain an optimal learning environment.
• Record student progress toward learning goals using ETM benchmarks and rubrics.
• Create and maintain a visually engaging bulletin board and music classroom materials.
• Support classroom procedures and routines as provided by the music teacher.
• Participate in ETM professional development training sessions.
• Grow as a music teacher and be culturally responsive.
• Communicate with ETM and school staff in a timely, constructive manner.
• Create a weekly observation journal and unit plan.
• If supporting ensembles, assist with materials inventory and ensemble rehearsals.
