Texas State University in San Marcos seeks an engaging, collaborative Assistant Professor of Instruction in Music Education to coordinate the music student teaching program and provide undergraduate courses.

The position is split 50/50 between administrative leadership and classroom teaching, including supervising student teachers, coordinating placements, and contributing to recruitment, accreditation, and assessment efforts within the School of Music.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Music Education or closely related field.
• Minimum of three years of successful EC-12 teaching experience.
• Demonstrated expertise in music education and program organization.
• Demonstrated organizational and interpersonal skills to work with student/clinical teachers, the College of Education, and cooperating teachers.
• Experience working with a variety of individuals in collaborative settings.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate the music student/clinical teaching program, placements, communications with College of Education, supervise seminars, and oversee policies and assessment.
• Teach undergraduate courses in music education (e.g., Marching Band Techniques, Instrumental Performance Literature, Music Teaching in various Classrooms).
• Supervise and mentor student/clinical teachers in field placements.
• Participate in recruitment, retention, accreditation, and assessment within the Music Education area and School of Music.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by the Director of the School of Music.
