Job summary

Texas State University’s School of Music invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Instruction in Music Education (Student Teaching Coordinator). The balanced 50/50 appointment supports teacher preparation and supervision of student teaching across specialization areas.

The role coordinates the student/clinical teaching program, mentors student teachers, and teaches undergraduate courses in music education.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Music Education or a closely related field.
• Minimum of three years of successful EC-12 teaching experience.
• Demonstrated expertise in music education and music program organization.
• Demonstrated organizational and interpersonal skills necessary to work effectively with student/clinical teachers, the College of Education, and cooperating teachers.
• Experience working effectively and collaboratively with a variety of individuals.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate the music student/clinical teaching program, including managing student/clinical teaching placements, communicating with the College of Education, collaborating with cooperating teachers and university supervisors, organizing seminars, and overseeing program policies, procedures, and assessment processes.
• Teach undergraduate courses in music education in area of specialization (courses may include Marching Band Techniques, Instrumental Performance Literature, Instrumental Arranging, Music Teaching in various Classroom Contexts, or Foundations of Music Education).
• Supervise and mentor student/clinical teachers in field placements.
• Participate in recruitment, retention, accreditation, and assessment efforts within the Music Education area and the School of Music.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by the Director of the School of Music.
