Job summary

Century Assembly in California is seeking a skilled Music Director to oversee worship experiences, translate the vision for worship into musical arrangements, and lead rehearsals.

The ideal candidate is a strong musician and leader with experience directing bands, developing musicians, and collaborating with the Worship Pastor and Production Team to deliver excellent worship.

Qualifications

• Strong proficiency on keys, guitar, or bass.
• Experience leading bands and rehearsals and communicating musical arrangements.
• Strong understanding of music theory and the Nashville Number System.
• Experience with contemporary worship and Gospel music styles is preferred.
• Proficient with Playback, stems, tracks, and music arranging.
• Basic knowledge of audio, IEMs, and worship production.

Responsibilities

• Develop song arrangements, transitions, and musical flow with the Worship Pastor/Lead.
• Prepare and manage playback, tracks, stems, and other resources.
• Lead the band during rehearsals with clear direction and cues during services.
• Play keys, guitar, or bass while directing the band as needed.
• Collaborate with Worship Pastor/Lead and Production Team for smooth worship experiences.
• Assist with basic audio troubleshooting as needed.

The Role

The Music Director will be responsible for the musical execution of our worship experiences and the development of our worship band. Working closely with the Worship Pastor/Lead, the Music Director will translate the vision for worship into musical arrangements, prepare the band, and provide clear musical direction during rehearsals and services.

The ideal candidate will be a skilled musician and strong leader who values musical excellence, develops others, and can lead from keys, guitar, or bass while directing the band.

Key Responsibilities

Musical Direction & Services

• Work with the Worship Pastor/Lead to develop song arrangements, transitions, and musical flow.
• Prepare and manage Playback, tracks, stems, and other musical resources.
• Lead the band during rehearsals and provide clear musical direction and cues during services.
• Play keys, guitar, or bass while providing musical direction as needed.
• Work with the Worship Pastor/Lead and Production Team to execute smooth and excellent worship experiences.
• Utilize basic audio and IEM knowledge to assist with troubleshooting when necessary.

Musician Development & Scheduling

• Schedule band members for services and rehearsals.
• Identify, recruit, train, and develop musicians.
• Help musicians grow in skill, preparation, and their ability to play together as a band.
• Integrate new musicians into the worship team.

Qualifications

Education

Formal education in music, worship, or a related field is desired but not required.

Experience

Musical Leadership

• Strong proficiency on keys, guitar, or bass.
• Experience leading bands and rehearsals and communicating musical arrangements.
• Strong understanding of music theory and the Nashville Number System.
• Experience with contemporary worship and Gospel music styles is preferred.

Technical & Production

• Proficient with Playback, stems, tracks, and music arranging.
• Basic knowledge of audio, IEMs, and worship production.
• Familiarity with a DAW is a plus.

Team Development & Organization

• Able to recruit, develop, schedule, and lead musicians.
• Organized, prepared, and able to plan musical needs in advance.
• Strong communicator who can receive direction from the Worship Pastor while taking ownership of musical execution.
