Job summary

The International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions is seeking a Museum Technology Supervisor to lead a team of Technology Specialists updating and maintaining interactive exhibits under the Exhibitions Technology Manager.

You will design, deploy, and test show-control systems, collaborate across departments, mentor staff, and stay current with emerging fabrication techniques to enhance visitor experiences. This role may require travel and flexibility for evenings and weekends.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in CS, robotics, or engineering.
  • 2–3 years leading creative teams in exhibits, games, or show tech.
  • Experience designing network infrastructure and show control systems.
  • Hardware UI deployment with Arduino, Raspberry Pi, BrightSign, and similar tech.
  • Proficiency in Python, JavaScript or C/C++ and Unity, MAX/MSP, or UE; GitHub familiarity.
  • Experience leading developers from concept to deployment and upgrading hardware.
  • Familiarity with Windows, Mac, Linux; CAD tools for digital fabrication.
  • Experience with sensor-based control systems and rapid prototyping.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Willingness to travel and be flexible for schedule variances.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise a team of Museum Technology Specialists diagnosing malfunctions and maintaining exhibits.
  • Provide technical guidance and foster a collaborative work environment.
  • Collaborate to maintain exhibit functionality and preventative maintenance schedules.
  • Oversee design, installation, testing, and evaluation of exhibit technologies.
  • Generate proposals to update exhibits using new methods and technologies.
  • Coordinate with departments to ensure integration and visitor engagement.
  • Develop documentation for code, CAD files, specs, and procedures.
  • Train staff on operation and maintenance of exhibit tech.
  • Stay current with tech advances applicable to museum exhibits.
  • Oversee installations at other venues as needed and report progress.

Job description

SUMMARY

Museum Technology Supervisors work with the Exhibitions Technology Manager under the leadership of the Exhibitions Technical Director and are responsible for leading a team of Technology Specialists in updating and retrofitting of technological components within interactive exhibits. This role requires a broad understanding of the diverse range of tools, technologies, and materials used to diagnose and resolve malfunctions in exhibits; ensuring seamless operation.

This is a newly formed department, and we need a wide range of skills and knowledge.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Robotics, Mechatronics, Engineering or a related field.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities, with a track record of motivating and directing creative teams Minimum of 2-3 years of professional experience in developing video games, theme park attractions, experience design, special effects technology, software-to-hardware interface applications, robotics, mechatronics, or a combination of relevant experience and training.
  • Experience designing, building and deploying network infrastructure, wireless applications and show control systems.
  • Experience developing, assembling and installing hardware systems and user interface equipment such as Arduino, Raspberry Pi, Brightsign players, show control boxes, and digital touch displays.
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language such as Python, Javascript, C/ C++ with the ability to learn new languages as required and programs such as Unity, MAX/MSP, UE, and working with repositories such as Github.
  • Experience leading a team of developers from initial concept to deployment, overseeing code rewrites to upgrade hardware technology and integrate with new systems preferred.
  • Experience working with multiple operating systems, including MS Windows, Mac OS, and Linux. Experience using CAD software for digital fabrication (e.g., Vectorworks, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Rhino, Revit).
  • Experience developing and maintaining sensor based input and control systems using motion detectors, pressure pads, RFID actuators, as well as capacitive, ultrasonic, and photovoltaic sensers.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in rapid prototyping and digital fabrication techniques such as 3D printing, machining, laser-cutting, waterjet, and CNC lathe.
  • Broad understanding of materials, their fabrication processes, supply chains, and industries.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively with all levels of museum staff.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving abilities.
    Ability to work at high elevations utilizing lifts and fall safety equipment.
  • Proficiency in oral and written communication.
  • Flexibility to work a schedule that may include evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
  • Willingness to occasionally travel to other venues for exhibit installations
Key Job Responsibilities
  • Supervise a team of Museum Technology Specialists who will be responsible for diagnosing malfunctions, documenting, updating, retrofitting and maintaining interactive exhibits’ specialized systems and components.
  • Provide technical guidance and leadership to team members fostering a positive, collaborative, and innovative work environment, prioritize collective workflow goals to ensure efficient use of resources and timely completion of deliverables.
  • Collaborate with the Exhibitions Technology Manager to develop and implement strategies for maintaining exhibit functionality and develop preventative maintenance schedules to ensure the ongoing performance and reliability of interactive exhibits’ specialized systems and components, adopting strategies for long term sustainability and scalability.
  • Oversee the design development, installation, testing, and evaluation of exhibit technologies to ensure functionality, usability, and strong visitor engagement.
  • Generate proposals to update and upgrade existing exhibits, including new ways of presenting existing content using specialized methods and technologies.
  • Coordinate with other departments to ensure seamless integration of technological components with exhibit designs while enhancing interactivity and maximizing visitor experience.
  • Collaborate with Operations and Exhibit Development to evaluate specialized needs for updating or modifying exhibits in the future, utilizing principles of iterative design and continuous improvement processes.
  • Develop and maintain documentation processes related to exhibit technology, including but not limited to: code repositories, CAD files, shop drawings, technical specifications, and maintenance procedures.
  • Train museum staff on the operation and maintenance of exhibit technology as needed.
  • Stay current with advancements in technology relevant to museum exhibits and recommend updates or improvements as appropriate.
  • Oversee exhibit installations at other venues as required, ensuring that technology components are properly integrated and functioning.
  • Provide regular reports to the Exhibitions Technical Manager on the status of exhibit technology projects and any issues encountered.
  • Perform other duties as assigned applying your versatile skillset to meet the evolving needs of the museum.
