Job summary

The Metropolitan Museum of Art is hiring a Special Officer to enforce security rules, conduct visitor screening, conduct searches, and respond to incidents with professional conduct. The role emphasizes teamwork, strong customer service, and the ability to work autonomously within a large cultural institution.

Applicants should reside within the five boroughs, be able to complete the required Peace Officer training, and meet TSA requirements.

Qualifications

• One-year full-time experience as a Security Officer at the Museum.
• Must pass necessary qualifications to be appointed Special Officer by the NYC Police Commissioner.
• Must live within the five boroughs of New York City.
• Must successfully complete M.P.T.C. Basic Peace Officer course (currently 162 hours).
• Must meet Transportation Security Administration requirements.
• All physical requirements of a Security Officer, including prolonged standing and walking.

Responsibilities

• Report daily occurrences through the chain of command and execute visitor access control procedures.
• Guard and patrol Museum entrances, perimeter and off-site facilities, with attention to safety conditions.
• Provide escort within the Museum on an as-needed basis and support customer service with maturity and professionalism.
• Identify, monitor and control access for visitors, staff, vendors, volunteers, and contractors.
• Respond to issues with Frontline Security Supervisors and SOC as required and maintain incident documentation.
