Job summary

The Art Institute of Chicago seeks a security officer to protect staff, patrons, and artwork by controlling access, monitoring for suspicious activity, and responding to emergencies. Ideal candidates have a High School diploma or GED, at least two years in security or related work, strong communication skills, and basic computer knowledge.

Qualifications

• Two years of security or related experience.
• Strong customer service and written and verbal communications skills.
• Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagrammatic form.
• Ability to work under pressure and in emergency situations.
• Basic computer knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Controls access to the museum.
• Monitors visitors, staff, and contractors for unusual actions.
• Demonstrates knowledge of the museum layout including offices, restrooms, galleries and exhibits.
• Enforces policies and protects property; observes for theft or damage.
• Responds to fire and security alarms; completes incident reports.
• Provides courteous assistance to visitors and staff.
• Patrols premises and monitors parking areas and accessibility zones.
