Job summary

City of Foley, AL seeks a Museum Manager and Curator to lead exhibitions, manage collections, and plan educational programs. The role oversees gift shop, deposits, donations, and grant writing, while maintaining historic facilities and coordinating with boards and volunteers. Some Saturdays and on-call coverage may be required.

Reports to the Museums & Heritage Director. Requires a Bachelor’s Degree with two years in a related field; preferred: Museum Studies or History.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree or higher in a related field; two years of related experience
• Preferred degrees include Museum Studies or History with public history focus
• Valid driver’s license is required

Responsibilities

• Oversee collections management and curatorial activities, including research, acquisition, preservation, documentation, interpretation, and access
• Lead planning and implementation of temporary and permanent exhibitions
• Supervise part-time staff and volunteers; coordinate with boards and clubs
• Manage revenue streams: gift shop, deposits, donations; write grants to secure funding
• Maintain historic depot building and museum facilities; ensure safety and maintenance
