Job summary

UC Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive (BAMPFA) seeks a Financial Analyst to optimize income mix and strengthen the museum's financial health across departments. The role emphasizes detailed analysis, budgeting, and communicating findings to stakeholders.

You will manage grant and contract accounting, develop forecasts, support revenue opportunities, and ensure compliance with sponsor requirements.

Qualifications

  • Thorough knowledge of financial data management and reporting systems.
  • Understanding of research administration guidelines for Federal and non-Federal sponsors, preferably in a university environment.
  • Experience with awards: grants, contracts, subcontracts, gifts, and cooperative agreements.
  • Experience with nonprofit fund accounting and fiscal management of grants.
  • Proficiency in spreadsheet and database software for financial analysis and reporting.
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities; adaptable to changing priorities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Manages pre-award and post-award contract and grant accounting for federal, state, local and private sponsors.
  • Tracks disbursement and allocation of restricted grant and donation funds.
  • Partners with Grants Manager on reporting and budget development; supports expense approvals.
  • Develops and manages exhibition budget-to-actual analyses, forecasting and variance analysis.
  • Collaborates to improve reporting templates and multi-year budget tracking tools.
  • Monitors budget owner review processes and provides fund balances and analyses.
  • Assists with monthly income and fund analysis; coordinates stakeholder discussions on income/funds.
  • Performs cost-benefit analyses to maximize revenue opportunities.
  • Supports ad-hoc reporting, quarterly reconciliation, and fiscal-close tasks; backup as needed.
  • Provides guidance on accounts receivable, purchasing, and fund usage; ensures proper COA usage.
  • Oversees income mix, invoicing, and timely payments; tracks funds across accounts.
  • Keeps knowledge of federal/non-federal guidelines and suggests process improvements for compliance.
