Job summary

The San Diego Natural History Museum is seeking a reliable Facilities Associate to assist with daily operations and the security of the building. The role involves opening the building each morning, coordinating with security staff, monitoring access, and supporting events and maintenance tasks.

This full-time on-site position requires strong communication, organization, and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Valid CA driver’s license, Guard Card, CPR/AED/First Aid are required.

Qualifications

• Intuitive decision-making and responsive.
• Frequent standing, walking, bending, climbing stairs and ladders, and lifting up to 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Conduct daily opening of the building, serving as the first on-site contact and opening the facility for staff.
• Perform regular building walk-throughs to ensure security and functioning systems (HVAC, water pumps, elevators, generators, fire systems, pest control).
• Conduct monthly fire life safety checks and report inventory needs.
• Greet and manage contractors, provide access, direct to work areas, and coordinate with Security Manager.
• Log and distribute museum deliveries; manage waste and recycling bins; check for fire hazards.
• Assist with vehicle check-out and parking reservations; support access card creation and distribution.
• Monitor security cameras and patrols; escort staff handling cash; respond to emergencies.
• Support Special Events with setup/teardown and crowd control for 21+ events.
• Complete incident reports and assist with cross-training of staff.
