Job summary

The Adler Planetarium in Chicago seeks a Chief Engineer to lead the stationary engineer team and manage daily facility operations, maintenance, and admin duties to uphold safety, quality, and service standards.

You will oversee HVAC, plumbing, electrical and fire/life safety systems, schedule staff, track work orders, and collaborate on capital projects, all within a union environment (IUOE Local 399).

Qualifications

• Current City of Chicago Stationary Engineer License.
• Minimum of 5 years as a licensed Stationary Engineer (City of Chicago).
• Experience using computer software (email, word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, video conferencing).
• Valid driver's license required (Adler Van and MVR check).

Responsibilities

• Oversee and document preventive maintenance for HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and life-safety systems.
• Schedule, lead, and instruct stationary engineers; track work orders in CMMS.
• Provide technical advice on repairs and capital projects with Operations leadership.
• Enforce safety regulations and shop housekeeping across the facility.
• Monitor utility usage and identify opportunities to reduce consumption.
