Job summary

The Milwaukee Public Museum is seeking two limited-term, part-time Collections Move Technicians to support moving its 4 million-object collection. Work within the Cultural Science department with possible tasks across anthropology, history, and archival collections; some offsite work may occur.

Schedule is Monday–Thursday, 8:30–3:30, for about 1 year with potential extension. Undergraduate or graduate degree in Museum Studies (in-progress acceptable) and prior museum collections experience

Qualifications

• Undergraduate or graduate degree in Museum Studies or a related field (complete or in-progress) with museum collections experience.
• Experience with handling museum objects and preparing packing for transport.
• Ability to perform repetitive tasks accurately and safely.
• Strong problem-solving, detail orientation, and 3D-spatial reasoning.
• Ability to wear PPE and work independently or in a team.

Responsibilities

• Safely handle and move museum objects during packing and transport.
• Read labeling numbers and transcribe data into spreadsheets.
• Create, tie, and attach barcodes to museum objects.
• Photograph objects and prep packing materials as required.
• Construct crates and packing supports; operate a pallet jack.
• Assist with EMu database entries and other move-related tasks.
