Job summary

The West Virginia Department of Tourism in Charleston seeks a Collections Coordinator to assist with all aspects of collection management under the supervision of the Director of Museums. You will handle registration, cataloging, storage, conservation and preservation, and help implement a centralized digital cataloging system.

Two years of museum or heritage experience, a four-year degree in Museum Studies or related field, and knowledge of collections management are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Museum Studies, Art History, Archaeology or related field.
• Two years of museum or heritage setting experience.
• Experience with collections management systems or cataloging tools.

Responsibilities

• Perform skilled work in museum collections at the full performance level.
• Assist in developing collection management policies and overall museum policy.
• Work with registration, cataloging, storage, interpretation, conservation, and preservation.
• Maintain records: accession, location, loan, insurance, inventories.
• Coordinate implementation of a centralized digital cataloging system.
• Ensure all collection records are entered into the centralized system.
• Assist exhibits staff during installations with proper handling and care.
• Assist in identifying potential artifacts during exhibitions.
• Support outreach and technical assistance in West Virginia communities.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
