Job summary

West Virginia University’s West Virginia and Regional History Center seeks a Digitization Archivist to lead digitization, metadata, and repository workflows. The role oversees imaging, metadata creation, and ingest into Hyku, coordinating with the Systems and Processing teams.

You will supervise staff, graduate assistants, and interns while ensuring standards compliance and accessibility of digital collections.

Qualifications

• Master's degree from an ALA-accredited program for library and information sciences (or equivalent).
• At least one year of experience working with digital materials in archives or libraries.
• Experience in digitization and digital archives management practices, technologies, and tools.
• Experience with digital projects management.
• Working knowledge of standards related to digital records, digital objects, and metadata and knowledge of various digital content formats and standards.
• Knowledge of national standards and best practices for the description of archival materials (DACS, EAD).
• A high degree of technical facility and ability to learn new technologies through research and self-study.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• Commitment to diversity and expanding a diverse historical record.

Responsibilities

• Leads the digitization strategy for the WVRHC in coordination with stakeholders.
• Identifies and prioritizes materials for digitization based on collection needs, patron requests, and standards.
• Oversees digitization of analog and audiovisual materials in accordance with FADGI and other standards.
• Plans, manages, and documents digitization projects from selection through quality control, metadata creation, and ingestion.
• Manages relationships with external digitization vendors, including specifications, workflows, and quality control.
• Establishes and maintains descriptive metadata standards (Dublin Core, LCNAF, LCSH) for digital collections.
• Prepares digital objects and metadata for ingest into Hyku and coordinates with ArchivesSpace.
