The Clinical Lab Assistant assists the clinic staff in providing excellent patient care and promoting efficient patient flow. The role includes performing waived and moderate complexity tests in the clinical laboratory for use in the treatment and diagnosis of disease, in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as practice-specific procedures.

Responsibilities

1. Provide quality venipuncture or capillary service for patients of all ages with lab orders, practicing universal precautions.
2. Accurately enter patient demographic information and assay orders into all computer systems, and maintain lab documentation as required.
3. Properly process and handle specimens following specific guidelines, ensuring quality assurance and documenting remedial actions.
4. Maintain medical supplies within cost-effective parameters.
5. Perform decontamination of assigned areas and document procedures.
6. Participate in ongoing education, meetings, and committees as requested.

Minimum Qualifications

High School Degree or Equivalent. 0-6 months of work experience. State licensure and/or professional certification as required. Preferred certification: Phlebotomy. Current BLS certification from AHA or Red Cross.

Physical Requirements

Ability to stand, walk, sit, bend, kneel, climb stairs, reach, use hands and legs, perform repetitive motions, and lift objects up to 50 lbs. Must have 20/40 corrected vision and be able to work indoors in a latex-safe environment.
