Job summary

The City of Paso Robles is offering a part-time Planning Internship in the Community Development Department’s Planning Division. Open to students or recent grads, the position runs up to 17 hours weekly for up to one year with the possibility of a mutual extension.

Work alongside seasoned planning professionals to gain practical, hands-on experience in municipal planning, zoning, and development review, building a solid foundation for a career in planning or a related field.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Current enrollment in or recent completion of an undergraduate or graduate program in urban planning, city planning, or a related field.
• Desirable coursework or experience in land use planning, zoning, environmental review, housing, GIS, urban design, public policy, or municipal planning.

Responsibilities

• Assist planning staff in preparing staff reports, zoning letters, conditions of approval, presentations, and public notifications.
• Review development applications, site plans, and construction drawings for compliance with zoning regulations and design guidelines.
• Conduct basic research and summarize data related to land use, zoning, housing, and planning projects.
• Assist with processing planning applications, including verifying completeness and tracking projects.
• Prepare maps, exhibits, diagrams, and visuals to support planning reports and public meetings.
• Maintain planning records and databases for accuracy and organization.
