Job summary

The City of Mableton is seeking a Planner to support the Community Development department. The role handles day-to-day permitting, zoning reviews, GIS mapping, and staff support to the Director and Planning Commission.

Ideal candidates have a Bachelor's in Planning or related field and at least one year of planning experience; a Master’s degree is preferred. Proficiency in Google Suite, GIS, and MS Office is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Planning, Urban Design or related field and one year of planning experience.
• Experience performing entry-level professional work including data analysis, report creation, and regulatory activities.
• Proficiency in Google Suite and other relevant software.
• Valid Georgia Class C driver’s license.
• Master’s degree preferred.

Responsibilities

• Uses GIS to analyze and extrapolate information and create maps and reports.
• Provides customer service as a point of contact to the public.
• Serves as staff liaison to boards such as BZA and Planning Commission.
• Prepares staff reports with recommendations and conditions of approval.
• Interprets zoning ordinances and advises on zoning code matters.
• Coordinates with developers, builders, and property owners.
• Processes development and building plans related to zoning, including permits.
• Researches planning data and creates summaries and reports.
