Job summary

City of Charlotte invites applications for an Assistant City Attorney II in the City Attorney’s Office. The role supports the Mayor, City Council, City Manager, and departments on litigation matters involving the City.

Located at the Charlotte Mecklenburg Government Center, the position title will reflect the candidate's experience and qualifications. Minimum five years’ practicing attorney experience and a Juris Doctorate with an active North Carolina license are required.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctorate degree from ABA accredited law school.
• Current license to practice law in North Carolina.

Responsibilities

• Provides legal advice to City representatives and department attorneys on routine or moderately complex issues.
• Conducts legal research on moderately complex issues.
• Prepares legal documents on routine matters and assists on complex assignments.
• Represents the City in internal and external legal matters as needed.
• Keeps abreast of local, state, and federal law affecting municipalities.
• Ensures compliance with relevant laws and regulations.

Education

Juris Doctorate degree

Active North Carolina bar license
