Job summary

The Municipality of Welkom in South Africa is seeking a Civil Infrastructure Engineer to plan, design and oversee essential municipal services. You will work on water, wastewater, roads and stormwater projects, ensuring sustainable operation and quality delivery of infrastructure for residents.

You will collaborate with internal departments, external contractors and community stakeholders to develop and implement development plans in line with national standards and local bylaws.

Qualifications

• BEng or BSc in Civil Engineering required.
• Professional registration as Pr Eng or Pr Eng Tech with ECSA.
• Minimum 5 years' civil engineering experience, municipal focus.
• Experience in design and project management of water/wastewater/roads/stormwater.
• Knowledge of SANS and municipal service delivery frameworks.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and related design software.

Responsibilities

• Design plans for municipal infrastructure including water, sewer, stormwater and road upgrades.
• Prepare technical specs, contract documents, and cost estimates for public works.
• Manage projects from conception through completion within budget and timeline.
• Conduct site inspections to ensure compliance with designs and specs.
• Review designs submitted by external consultants.
• Liaise with government departments, utilities and regulators.
• Maintain asset registers and assist long-term asset planning.
• Ensure all projects comply with SANS standards and bylaws.
• Assist in developing municipal infrastructure development plans.
