Job summary

The City of Hamilton is seeking a City Attorney to serve as the chief legal advisor to the City Council and City Manager. The attorney will provide guidance on contracts, civil service and employment matters, real estate, economic development, and land use regulation.

The position also involves supervising outside counsel, handling litigation, and prosecuting misdemeanor offenses in Hamilton Municipal Court, with meetings attended in person or remotely as requested by the City.

Qualifications

• Licensed to practice law in Texas and in good standing with the State Bar of Texas.
• Seven (7) years of experience in municipal or governmental law.
• Experience representing Texas municipalities or other Texas local government entities.
• Knowledge of Texas statutes, regulations, and municipal-government practices.
• Ability to provide responsive legal services and attend meetings in person or remotely as requested by the City.
• No conflict of interest that would prevent representation of the City.

Responsibilities

• Provide legal advice and support across contracts, civil service and employment matters, real estate, economic development, and land use regulation.
• Oversee and coordinate the activities of outside counsel for litigation or specialized legal services.
• Prosecute misdemeanor offenses in Hamilton Municipal Court.
