Job summary

Foothill‑De Anza Community College District in Los Altos Hills, CA is seeking a Utility Maintenance Worker II to perform semi‑skilled and skilled work across carpentry, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and more. The role focuses on utility maintenance and may support other Plant Services personnel.

The position advances from Worker I after two years with increased responsibility. The job requires completing the 12th grade, trade school courses, and a valid California driver's license.

Qualifications

• Utility Maintenance Worker I: Completion of the twelfth grade; trade school courses desirable.
• Utility Maintenance Worker II: Completion of the twelfth grade and completion of trade school courses or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Maintain building and campus infrastructure systems; assess conditions, install, adjust, repair or replace parts and recommend new purchases.
• Fabricate items for district needs (e.g., specialized cabinets, furniture parts).
• Operate woodworking equipment to produce required components.
• Install furniture, classroom, office, and facility components to ensure compliance and safety.
• Perform building envelope repairs including roofing, caulking, and glazing.
• Exchange information with management and staff regarding ongoing projects and priorities.
• Perform routine inspections; coordinate with FF&E Coordinators for replacements; maintain inventories and recommend purchases.
• Troubleshoot and coordinate repairs with other shops.
• Make emergency plumbing repairs—replace broken pipe, clean drains, flush sewer lines, replace fixtures.
• Make roof repairs as required.
• Make electrical repairs—replace fuses, fixtures, ballasts, switch wiring; maintain lighting systems.
• Operate cardboard baler.
• Inspect wheelchair lifts, maintain logs, and conduct walkthroughs with the state elevator inspector.
• Perform work in other trades as required.
• Perform HAZMAT/safety inspections; maintain fire extinguisher tags and records.
• Maintain equipment rooms, shops, vehicles, and tools.
